Hearing aids and personal sound amplification products (PSAPS) can both improve the ability of hearing sounds. They are both wearable, and some of their technology and function is similar. However these devices are different in that only hearing aids are intended to make up for impaired hearing. Individuals should only buy a personal sound amplifier after ruling out hearing loss as a reason for getting one. If you suspect hearing loss, get your hearing evaluated by a health care professional choosing a PSAP as the substitute for hearing aid can lead to more damage to hearing, says Mann. It can cause a delay in diagnosis of a potentially treatable condition, delay can allow the condition to get worse and lead to other complications. |

The widely accepted definition of health is that of the World Health Organization Constitution. It states: "health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity" (World Health Organization, 1946). In more recent years, this statement has been amplified to include the ability to lead a "socially and economically productive life". The WHO definition is not without criticism, mainly that it is too broad. Some argue that health cannot be defined as a state at all, but must be seen as a dynamic process of continuous adjustment to the changing demands of living. In spite of its limitations, the concept of health as defined by WHO is broad and positive in its implications, in that it sets out a high standard for positive health. In general meaning, physical fitness is a general state of good physical health. A physically handicapped person's body may be physically fit (healthy), though its ability is likely to be less than optimum. |
